MAYOR HAHN AND CARLOS SANTANA CELEBRATE THE GREEK THEATRE’S 75TH ANNIVERSARY THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 30th

To celebrate the legendary Greek Theatre's 75 th Anniversary, Mayor James Hahn and Carlos Santana will partake in a special press conference this Thursday, September 30 th at The Greek Theatre. In addition, Mayor James Hahn will declare September 30 th as “Carlos Santana Day in the City of Los Angeles ,” and present Carlos and his wife Deborah with the Latino Heritage Month Rigoberta Menchú Humanitarian Award.
Carlos and Deborah Santana are being honored with this special award for exemplifying peace while unifying a community and seeking the welfare of society while advocating human rights and equality. Carlos and Deborah founded Milagro (“Miracle”) which is a charitable foundation established in 1998 and focuses on the well being of children and youth through educational programs. The foundation makes grants to community-based, grass roots organizations that work with children and youth especially those at risk and disadvantaged due to such factors as poor health illiteracy or insufficient educational and cultural opportunities.
The Greek Theatre is honored to have Carlos Santana perform for three nights Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 culminating a month long celebration of stellar music for the venue's 75 th Anniversary. The Greek Theatre is owned by the City of Los Angel es , and is managed, operated and promoted by Nederlander-Greek Inc. During Nederlander's 29 years at The Greek Theatre, it has become a world-renowned, award-winning amphitheatre hosting thousands of events ranging from pop to classical music and reggae to rock making it one of the cultural icons of the city.
